When Negotiating a Video Production Contract, Ask the Most Questions
It's important to realize that when you are in a sales meeting trying to negotiate a video production contract, the person who is asking the most questions is winning.

Asking a lot of the right kind of questions gives you the ammunition needed to write a great proposal. Or, if they are the one asking all the questions, your answers will give them enough information to either negotiate lower rates with you or to take the knowledge you've just shared with them to other videographers.

In a quick and fast society, how can a videographer still make an acceptable profit?
Easy, you have to figure out how to package your services in a way so that they appear fast and cheap but in reality, they are still VERY profitable for your video business.

For instance, when quoting on a project to shoot/edit a corporate meeting or event, the traditional way includes shooting the seminar, editing it and packaging it onto a DVD or exporting is as a really long video file that they can post somewhere on the web.

Are the Videos on Your Website Being Pirated?
This may come as a shock to many who read this: If the video on your website is delivered via progressive download, it can be saved as a digital file. By digital file, I mean exactly that - the same file you created. Yup. Anyone watching your progressively downloaded video can save the source file - all he or she needs is the right software tool, a tool that can easily be found on the web - for free!

I'm not going to provide recommendations on which tool is best to do the job. That's not the point of this entry. But I will explain why it can be done and how to prevent it.
